REASONS TO JOIN ISTC
As exchange students, you will discover a very friendly working atmosphere, supported by a dedicated staff that offers personal guidance to students throughout their exchange period.
We offer English courses to our exchange students. Therefore, if you don’t know the French language but wish to study at ISTC, this is possible. And you will also have the opportunity to take a French language class for free!
Our regular students also commit themselves for international students to feel just like at home. The so-called association BDI (Bureau des Internationaux) gathers French students devoted to exchange students. Throughtout the year, they assist them for administrative tasks, they organize social activities (visit of the city at the beginning of each semester, typical regional restaurants…).

RESEARCH
ISTC’s Research Department was founded in 2020 to facilitate interdisciplinary and innovative research on various forms of media and communication technologies, as well as their impact on past, present, and future societies. Our researchers work to create a collaborative research environment to critically address issues related to the cultural, (geo)political, and social challenges of the digital transition and its consequences on all human communication practices.
In June 2021, we organized our first international conference on the « networked society, » with the keynote address delivered by sociologist Manuel Castells. Since then, we have been consolidating and expanding our research activities. We have partnered up with the Center for Internet and Society (CIS) of the CNRS to co-convene its annual seminar and talk series on algorithmic and AI-enabled surveillance practices; we have organized three further conferences on socio-political implications of Big Data, mediated scale, and digital public diplomacy.
In November 2023, our researchers co-founded CEThicS, the first Center for the study of Surveillance Technologies in France and the Francophone world. We are committed to continually expanding our activities. Therefore, we welcome opportunities to collaborate on these topics with other institutions, researchers, and practitioners.
